OUR PLANET IN DISTRESS.

A lovely story by Dea.

My life in the lost Atlantis.

I used to live in Atlantis, when I was a child. Unfortunately, one day something terrible happened.

I was walking along the road looking at the shops. It was a very beautiful, warm day, when I heard a noise. When I turned my head I saw big waves coming at me. I ran fast to my home. There was my mother and she took me from the hand. She told me ‘‘Don’t be afraid!'' I couldn't understand what was happening. All the people around me were running. The waves were terrible. After that, an earthquake began. The earth was shaking and the homes were being destroyed. We ran away.

We couldn't find my brother and my father. Later, we went to the port. My dad and my brother were waiting for us.  They had found a boat to take us away from the island. We went aboard and we left quickly. I was very sad, afraid and confused. Suddenly, I  saw the island sinking in the ocean from afar.

From that day on we have been living in Crete, Greece. It’s beautiful here, but I‘ll never forget  Atlantis.

D Class Cultures!

These are some of the messages I got from D class students who wanted to give us some information about cultures they are interested in.

These messages were sent through the school online workbook platform. That's great! We are really happy to see that you searched for information about other cultures after seeing what teenagers are put through so that they are considered adults in other parts of the world. Keep learning! :)

Letter to the editor from a concerned citizen.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am sending this email to tell you some ways of helping the endangered species. By helping the environment you are helping yourself because the consequences of a destroyed environment influence you as well!

First of all, you should never throw plastic bags into the sea because sea turtles think that the plastic bags are jellyfishes and so the eat them and die. Also never throw waste into lakes or rivers because that does a huge damage to endangered species. And last but not least never go hunting when it is not allowed to.

The consequences that we will face if the food chain collapses will be devastating! That is if a kind of animal seizes to exist then another kind of animal will multiply bringing chaos to the world! That is why we should take better care of the environment to preserve endangered species and make sure that they will not seize to exist!

I would like to thank you in advance for reading my letter and I hope others will agree with me and speak up for the environment. Together we can make a difference!

Your sincerely,

 Bill Po

Environment in Danger! ... by Haris K!

The last few years, our planet and environment, is being destroyed by us. The world is getting worse, because we are not as careful as we can. One of the problems of this planet is the danger of animals becoming extinct. These animals are endangered species.

The consequences of a possible extinction of entire species like wolves or foxes and eagles will be huge and devastating. There are many direct consequences but the most important of them is the destruction of the food chain in global scale and the destruction of nature's balance. Even if only one animal becomes extinct, all the food chain will collapse like a tower of cards.

Even though there are simple precautions that people can take to save and preserve endangered species, very little is actually done by individuals to protect what we have. There are protective actions, like putting stickers on our windows at work or at home, to help little birds not to collide onto them.

Another thing could be slowing down when driving, especially if you're driving in a provincial road, you should be careful not to run over a goat or a sheep far worse a bear or a fox. Moreover, anyone can join an organization that preserves endangered species or tries to keep the wild life population intact.

We can do these little things as well as become actively interested in endangered animals and do what we can to protect them.

These are some of my favorite images of summer...representing what it's all about for me; peace, reflection and rejuvenation..hope they can give you the same positive feelings during a break from a busy day.  The summer is a special time to regain our strength for the new year. It  may be challenging to let go of all that freedom at first ,but you'll see that your summer fun will come out in your projects and discussions throughout the year---you just have to let the summer in, even in the mid of winter.  It's like what us non-students do-let our youth shine when we're getting too serious.
Thanks to all the beautiful memories of a summer gone by, Cheers to an even better year ahead!

Summer is my favourite season for the chance to go swimming and enjoy relaxing moments like that above. The colours, the smells as well as the gentle breeze brushing against your face makes you feel so happy, don't you think?

Get some pictures to share with the class. It would be nice to have a photo album to run to every time we need a break!!!

Bertie's Quest!

Bertie the frog, formerly known as the Prince is sent on a Quest to find a dinosaur for his fiancee as a present for her birthday.
This impossible quest is set as proof that he is still a prince. A real Prince wouldn't allow a little thing like extinction stop him from getting his wife-to-be a pet, would he?
What better place to start his search for the creature than The Natural History Museum in London!
Don't forget to check the wonderful photos Bertie has put on his story and listen / read the story!

Enjoy!!! Bertie's Quest Story on Storynory :)

and don't forget to comment of course.... Where else did Bertie go to find a dinosaur?

What are we reading this week?

Inspired by John's wall,

I thought of asking all of you to share something you've read or have been reading this week.
Search for an article, a piece of news or a blog entry or some gossip perhaps (!) that caught your eye and post it here.
It could also be an extract from a book you've been reading. Write about it or something  from it.
I'm sure all of you have so many different interests that it would be extremely interesting to see what we can inform each other about and what a variety of topics we could discuss or how much we can learn about each other.

I can't wait for your comments with links! Don't keep me waiting, please:)

If you're wondering about John and his wall. There's a link to take you there on the right hand column under 'Links created by students' - enjoy!
___________________________________________________________

This is what I've read and really enjoyed tonight. You all know what a 'breakfast bar' or ''cereal bar'' is but do you know what a ''mind bar'' is?
“Oh,” thought Katie, suddenly feeling a bit strange. For a moment she couldn’t quite figure out what it was. Every year her mum put on a very special Easter Egg hunt. Four or five of Katie’s best friends would come over, and they would search the house and the garden. It helped that Katie’s mum was a witch, because she could have all sorts of extra fun – she could make the eggs appear and disappear quite suddenly – she could even make them roll along the ground, grow bigger and smaller, or change colour in your hand. When the children were very young, they just accepted all this as something that happened only at Katie’s house – but as they grew older they of course realised that her mother had some powers that were a bit out of the ordinary. They didn't actually ask “Is your mum a witch?” because that would not be polite, but it was an open secret. Katie had always looked forward to the Easter Egg hunt in the past, but this year – well – she wasn't quite sure.

Sing and Practise!

A site to check out everyone.
I'm sure you're going to enjoy visiting this site and have so much fun by playing the games under the videos.

We have no comments with links of songs you'd like to sing at the karaoke party. I guess you're still thinking about it.
Anyway, I thought I should help you make up your minds a little bit and direct you to another site where you can sing along and at the same time play with the lyrics!
FOR THE GAME:
Don't worry if you can't get it right the first time - you   can listen to it again and again by clicking BACKSPACE while singing along.
No need to go back to the video- it just stops every time you need to add a word. As soon as you add the word it carries on automatically!

I can't wait to hear what you think and which songs you practised!

Valentine's coming up...

Show some love ...with a Rap beat

From Wikipedia:
Rapping is a primary ingredient in hip hop music and reggae, but the phenomenon predates hip hop culture by centuries. It can also be found in alternative rock such as that of Cake and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rapping is also used in Kwaito music, a genre that originated in JohannesburgSouth Africa and is composed of hip hop elements. Rapping can be delivered over a beat or without accompaniment. Stylistically, rap occupies a gray area among speech, prose, poetry, and song. The use of the word (meaning originally "to hit"[8]) to describe quick speech or repartee, long predates the musical form.[9] The word had been used in British English since the 16th century, and specifically meaning "to say" since the 18th. It was part of the African American dialect of English in the 1960s meaning "to converse", and very soon after that in its present usage as a term denoting the musical style.[10] Today, the terms "rap" and "rapping" are so closely associated with hip hop music that many use the terms interchangeably.
